What We Do

In3 BioRenewables (In3) advises, assists and invests in companies that use renewable raw materials to commercialize products and services. We serve as "venture catalysts" with strategic advise, finance and capitalization assistance, business planning and presentation, and business development services.  As a funding and advisory resource, we add hands-on experience to your company’s strategic planning, de-risking, and execution strengths, partnering (not interfering) with existing management.

Leveraging equity and debt finance experience, partner networks, and practical business skills, In3 addresses gaps in the venture capital and angel investing process, especially within the BioRenewables space.

The expanded use of renewable resources as replacements for fossil fuels is essential for the sustainable development of our society.  As biomass is the only renewable source of organic carbon, replacements for petroleum-derived materials (such as plastics), liquid fuels and chemicals require the use of biomass.  Often that biomass is abundantly available and can be repurposed waste, purpose-grown crops, or co-products from manufacturing processes.

In3 has over 15 years experience in clean technology transfer, finance and commercialization.  We collaborate to help clients and portfolio companies build a solid organizational foundation, fine-tuning value propositions, deal structures, and "making the ask" (presenting the investment opportunity). We can help you and your team accelerate your company's commercial scale-up and growth, preserve founder equity, and gain access to subsequent funding.

Our core competencies include investor-grade business planning, early stage investing, funding strategy and deal definition, presentation, entrepreneurial success strategies and organizational development consulting and training for established businesses.  As minority stake investors in several early stage companies we understand the investors' perspective, sense of risk/reward, and keys to effective communication.

In the broadest sense, we help entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs integrate sustainability into business plans and to "inspire, innovate and invest" in ways that use, promote, develop, research, or market BioRenewable technologies.  We provide a full complement of business development services -- from inception to successful exit. Along the way, we can help you build intellectual property as competitor barriers, teams (human relations consulting since 1985), identify partners, form alliances, craft operational plans, financial or competitive analysis, risk assessment and mitigation, formulate sales and marketing plans.

In addition to business development and planning services, we can also assist clients through project management, team development, presentation skills coaching, forming partnerships and strategic alliances, and identifying other pathways to success and sustainability.

What we are NOT

In3 BioRenewables is not a venture fund and does not play a lead investment role in any transactions. We are also not independently-registered securities broker/dealers (though we have access to advisors and placement agents in this regard). Investors and advisors collaborate on due diligence, but make individual investment decisions. Because In3 affiliates are typically sophisticated and accredited investors, they understand the complexity and risk/reward dynamics of early stage investing.

Who Uses In3's Services

We work primarily with experienced management teams in early-stage "Future 500" ventures commercializing these renewable technologies, but also with established companies in diverse industries making a sincere effort toward integrating sustainability best practices, developing innovative "line extension" products or services, launching or relaunching promotional and capital campaigns (using social networks and effective multimedia), or investing in new systems, skills training or culture change initiatives.  See list of select clients.

But sustainability isn't all just about doing; it's also about being aligned, authentic, transparent and alive – part of being on the planet with all its other inhabitants. In that sense, sustainability is more a personal odyssey and opportunity for quality of life than it is yet another set of "things to do."  It is more about process and quality than about products and quantities.  Sustainability is not a checklist of items ... Did you add "environment" to the business plan? Check. Measure carbon and buy offset with credits? Check. Initiatives are most successful when framed as a way of being consistent with vision and values. We can help with that, too.
